Social media has a lot of benefits – it helps us connect with long-lost friends, old classmates, and people we never would have otherwise met from around the world, regardless of any geographic barriers, but there’s a downside to social media, too.
For many unfaithful spouses, Facebook, Twitter, and other social apps give them the perfect opportunity to carry on extramarital affairs under their partners’ noses. So, how can you tell if your husband or wife is cheating on you through social media? Our Las Vegas divorce attorneys recommend you look for the following signs.
Frequent Password Changes
One sign that your spouse is being unfaithful is that they are frequently changing their social media passwords. Of course, changing a password alone isn’t a sure sign of infidelity, but if your spouse knows that you know their password and changes it without telling you, or otherwise seems reluctant to let you see what they’re doing on social sites, it can be an indication that they’re trying to hide something from you.
Changing Their Profile to Look Single
Has your spouse changed their profile picture from one featuring you as a couple to one of just them, and done their best to get pictures that indicate they are married off their front page? This is one of the ways that cyber-cheaters find people on the side to hook up with – by making it look like they’re available, they’re hoping to attract the interest of other people.
They’re Constantly Clearing Their Online History
Like frequent password changes, noticing that your spouse is regularly erasing their online history is another sign that they are hiding something from you, such as making contact with the person they are cheating on you with, or looking for someone to cheat with in the future.
They Are Paying Lots of Attention to Someone Online
As strange as it seems, many cheating spouses publicly interact with the person they’re cheating with on social media. If you’ve noticed your spouse is spending lots of time chatting and interacting with someone they seem very close to – especially if it’s someone they don’t want to talk to you about or they are spending time with them to the exclusion of everyone else – it could be a sign that there’s more going on between them in secret.
While it’s important to know the signs that cheaters leave behind on social media, it’s also important to note that none of these activities mentioned above are 100% proof positive of an unfaithful spouse.
If you’re noticing more than one of these behaviors from your spouse, it’s normal to be suspicious. However, these are merely signs that you should look into their activity further to discover the truth. If you discover no evidence of infidelity, it may be time to talk to your spouse, and discuss how their behavior makes you feel uncomfortable and suspicious, and what can be done to improve your relationship.
